Azzurro Associates personal guarantee purchase firm bought out for £200M

Azzurro Associates Personal Guarantee purchase history

Since 2020, Azzurro Associates has been purchasing personal guarantee debt from the likes of Funding Circle, Capital on Tap, YouLend, Liberis. Azzurro Associates has now been sold to Hoist Finance, a subsidiary of Metis Bidco plc. Under the “Lowell” brand, Metis Bidco plc have also bought personal guarantee debt in the UK market.

There was a lot of turmoil with Azzurro Associates, with respect to the debt they purchased from Funding Circle. When attempting to have the court dismiss some guarantors defence, the matter was referred to the High Court. A highly respected judge of the initial hearing stated that the guarantors had a high prospect of success.

The matter was settled out of court last year, to a tremendous “victory” fanfare by Azzurro Associates and Funding Circle. See our November 2025 article.

Chinks in the Armour

Three months later, our recent experience is telling a different story. We are seeing Capital on Tap, Funding Circle and YouLend PGs that Azzurro Associates have alleged to purchase where the evidence that is presented is open to some very firm contention.

The purchase price for the company itself of £200m sounds like a lot of money. Previous reports found Azzurro Associates bought over 10,000 personal guarantee debts for £500m from Funding Circle alone. Therefore, 1000’s of Capital on Tap and other debts. However, you can guarantee that this purchase of Azzurro by the group that operates under the Lowell brand has been worked on for a period of time before this announcement.

The acquisition is apparently subject to regulatory approval. There is rising sensitivity surrounding the onerous nature of personal guarantees on limited company debt, particularly if the goal is to create charges on family homes on default.
